Applications of Thick-Walled Seamless Steel Tubes
Date:2026-07-14
Thick-walled seamless steel tubes are widely used due to their ability to withstand extreme high pressure, high temperature, and complex stress.
1. Energy and Power Sector
This is one of the core application scenarios for thick-walled seamless steel tubes, requiring extremely high resistance to high temperature and high pressure.
2. Thermal and Nuclear Power Generation: Used in the manufacture of key components such as superheaters, reheaters, headers, and main steam pipes for power plant boilers. These components are exposed to high-temperature, high-pressure steam environments for extended periods and need to withstand oxidation and corrosion; therefore, special steels such as 20G, 12Cr1MoVG, P91, and P92 are commonly used. For example, large-diameter thick-walled seamless steel tubes of P92 have been applied in the Datang Yuncheng 630℃ ultra-supercritical demonstration project in China.
3. Oil and Gas Extraction and Transportation: Used as drill pipes and casings in oil and gas drilling, requiring them to withstand enormous tensile, compressive, bending, and impact loads. They are also used in pipelines for long-distance, high-pressure transportation of oil and natural gas, as well as in furnace tubes and heat exchanger tubes in oil refineries.
4. Machinery Manufacturing and Industrial Equipment: Due to its excellent strength and mechanical properties, thick-walled seamless steel pipes are the preferred material for manufacturing many key equipment and components.
5. Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems: Commonly used in manufacturing core components such as hydraulic supports in coal mines, hydraulic cylinders in engineering machinery, and air cylinders, requiring wear-resistant and high-strength steels such as 27SiMn and 45#.
6. Precision Machinery and Vehicle Components: Used in manufacturing high-stress parts such as automobile axle sleeves, tractor transmission components, and high-pressure oil pipes for diesel engines. In the aerospace field, it is even used in manufacturing critical structural components such as aircraft landing gear.
7. Chemical Industry and Infrastructure Construction: Chemical and Fertilizer Equipment: Chemical and fertilizer production often involves high-temperature, high-pressure, and highly corrosive environments. Thick-walled seamless steel pipes are ideal for manufacturing reactors, heat exchangers, and pipelines. For example, high-pressure seamless steel pipes for fertilizer equipment need to withstand working pressures of 10-30 MPa.
8. Structural Supports and Pile Foundations: Due to their high strength, they are also commonly used in large steel structures, bridges, building piling, engineering columns, and other structures that need to withstand enormous loads. For example, small-diameter, thick-walled seamless pipes are often used in piling projects for bridges and high-rise buildings.
